So I come home from work and I see a look of horror/sadness on my wife's face as she is looking at my brand new Ascent.

I race out of my car and see the picture below.

Somebody hits me, takes off, no message, nothing.

I am a very very sad panda right now...

<tears>

So sorry, but if it somehow helps, you're not alone. Happened to me too. Someone keyed mine in a parking lot when it had less than 100 miles on it. I've owned a Forester for nearly ten years and to this day it has no scratches or dings, and yet this happens when my Ascent is brand new.

That's what insurance is for, mine goes to the body shop next week. Soon it'll be as good as new again, and so will yours.

One day our cars will have cameras ,probably not too far away , that record a 360 view around our cars....

Until then, Have you checked security cameras in the area this may have happened?

Happened to me as well. I had 400 miles on it and discovered someone scraped my front corner in a parking lot. Previous spotless Forester owner as well. It looks like new now and cost me $500 deductable.

No security cameras and I checked the vehicle that parks next to me at work (I am in a garage at home) and from the angles they could not have done it. So I am left with vandalism unless I am forgetting something. The only place that I parked it exposed was at work. I have never made an insurance claim and this car isn't even on my car yet (still within 30 window and my insurance told me to wait until I sold my own car to do the swap).

I cant imagine that it looks good to say hey, here is my new car. please insure it. oh yeah, I already have a claim...sigh...

That is so disgusting. There are too many drivers who just don't care. Sorry to hear about the damage to your beautiful new Ascent. Same thing happened to my son's WRX - hit and run at night in front of our home, $2,600 damage.

That's a red flag right there. Have you had the Ascent for over a day yet?

I have had the ascent for a week. I just got an estimate. They will have to replace the door because there is no skin for the vehicle. I also have molding and edge guards so there is that too. Of course, nothing like this fits absolutely perfectly and they can damage things during the repair. Cost is well over 2k. Sigh.

So angry.

Too bad, sorry to hear about this. That's one thing I am worried always. When I park my car nowadays I park close to new vehicles if possible, hoping those guys may be a bit more careful. The jerk scratched your SUV will one day own something new and he/she will know the pain.

Ugh that sucks man. So sorry to hear that. I got a tiny bb sized door ding in the rear passengers side which also made me go “$*^%!!!” For a sec.. nothing near as bad as what happened to you though.
Yeah, but we want our nice new cars to at least be pristine for just a while! Haha.

If you insist on an OEM door from Subaru, it'll fit as good as the original. Since the Ascent is so new there are probably no third party body parts yet available anyway. You're actually lucky that you're getting a whole new door rather than just a door skin.

The molding and edge guards can probably be reused, if not you'll get new ones included. Just be sure to inform the body shop and insurance adjuster that they are a part of the car and you expect them on the new door. Check your estimate to see if they are included. All replacement parts are usually listed.

Just be sure to choose a quality body shop, check online reviews such as at Angie's List. Quality body shops will not damage anything during the repair, they're experts at disassembling and reassembling cars. If they did cause any damage, they're liable to repair it. Take a comprehensive video of the car just before taking it in, just in case.

When you get the car back, carefully inspect everything, especially the paint color match. I've had several cars repaired over the years, quality body shops usually do an excellent job. You shouldn't be able to tell anything ever happened.

As far as the $2K cost, I'm sure you had collision insurance so you'll only need to pay the deductible.

I know this is painful for you, I'm going through the same thing myself. My Ascent goes in next week for repair. It's all part of life. Crap happens.

Sorry you have to go through this, but you're not alone! I know its life and I really hate the words "this is what insurance are for" and blah, blah, blah!

About human decency and do the right thing!

Happened to me as well on my 2015 Outback in an hospital parking lot. My car was hit by an oversize motorized wheelchair shopping basket. Lucky enough the CCTV was able to find the culprit. She was being driven for an appointment by a friend, the owner of the modified car. I couldn't go after the owner, just the women in the chair and sue in small claims court. But she is was on disability and had no assets.

So my loss at the end! And yes I have insurance, but it doesn't change the facts and how frustrating these events are.

Hang in!

I wonder if there's someone with a white car at work that has paint transfer?

Someone hit my wife's Honda Pilot when parked, but they had the integrity to leave a note. Make sure you request genuine parts.

Had my 2016 Outback hit in a theater parking lot. With the Ascent I park WAY away from anyone else.

I feel your pain. Won’t go into the details except for this. I have had a few cars repaired by a great body shop. The work was beautiful and up to original quality or better. A couple of vehicles went onto over 200k miles after the repair and I watched that whole time for any early failures concerning the repair and there were none, and this was on more extensive repair than you will need. So feel confident that it will be ok. Still sucks to go through it.

Also, there isn’t necessarily anything magical going on at the factory when they put on a door on a line that produces a complete car every 60 seconds that can’t be replicated by a good quality body technician who is taking his time to get it exactly right.

This is a beautiful sentiment. I wholeheartedly agree. I just A) don't like paying my deductible and B) I am going to be without my new car for a freaking week, haha. I know, I know...better to get it done right but still. The car WILL be missed :crying:
