Hey everyone!

I owned the first model of an ascent and loved a lot of things about it, but had issues with many things that made me feel it wasn't worth the value. We sold it to travel for a year and will be back state side in 6 months and am starting to think about what type of car we want again.

So my question is- are the newer models better as far as the issues that were experienced in the first model? My breaks squeaked, the panel on the passenger side door wouldn't stick and came off up around the window constantly, the car would shake when breaking down hills on the highway, and I had issues with the bluetooth not working.

Just wondering how the new model is or if I need to look at a different car. I really loved the look and feel of it, but with all the issues I had was not satisfied with it at all.

Thanks!

Hello & welcome. I just recently bought a 2022 Ascent Onyx Edition. I searched and researched many similar SUVs for the past few months. I came to the conclusion that in this "unusual" car market the Ascent offered the most value in a 3-row, AWD SUV. Depending on the market area, I encountered many dealers of other brands asking way over MSRP (Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade in particular). They call it "Markrt Adjustment", I call it price gouging.

From what I've read, the 2019 and 2020 models had some "teething" problems that have been resolved in the 2021-2022 cars. If you plan on keeping this, or any current new car long term, I'd advise investing in a factory extended warranty. There is so much expensive to repair technology that you want to be covered after the factory 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty expires.

Yes, while many 2019 owners faced some challenges with a 'first model year' vehicle (and many of us have not), "in general", those things are not common for the MY22 or even MY21 Ascents. The most difficult thing to navigate right now is supply chain, honestly. So if you have an established date for your return to the US, you'll want to factor that in to placing a factory order so your next vehicle will not cause you a long wait and to insure you get exactly what you want.

If you are truly concerned with long term things, the Subaru Gold Extended Service Contract (what folks tend to call an "extended warranty") isn't a bad thing to consider, given how expensive tech is these days and how you can't just replace small parts in many cases.

Thank you! I had the extended warranty and kept being told "Yes, they know there's a problem but nothing to fix it with yet"- along with 4 different recalls. I know there's always issues with new models, but since it was Subaru I didn't think it would be an issue. Good to know they're not charging more. I'll have to look into ordering one again.
