When I open the tailgate no lights come on. Is that correct? Also I taped over the cargo light with a toggle switch as it is easy to turn on and kill the battery. Same with the ceiling lights for the third row. If they get turned on they do not turn off except manually and kill the battery. major flaw in my opinion.

The cargo light isn’t what has killed batteries; it was an early version of the power lift gate controller.
If you’re worried about interior lights being left on and draining the battery I highly suggest swapping the bulbs for LED’s. I have kids that have left those lights on multiple occasions. With LED interior lights I’ve never had a dead battery.

Anyone know if the upgrade (during ordering process) to the LED interior lights changes anything other than specifically the LED lightbulbs themselves? Are there any wiring changes at all?

Curious if I could just swap to LED bulbs myself without paying Subaru to do it for me.
