The Forester and the Ascent are not the same vehicle and Ascent is not available outside of North American and the Philippines, but sad you also had that experience. I hope everyone involved is ok.

Thanks for clarifying that. I assume they are built on the same Subaru Global Platform and both have the same 2.5 litre boxer motor although the Forester in Australia is not turbocharged.

Definitely not the same vehicle, but a very similar accident, with exactly the same potentially deadly outcome. Certainly scary to see such minor accidents turn into something so extreme.

Yes, global platform (MY19+ for Forester, of course), although very different sized vehicles. We have one of each. Different engine in the Ascent as it's a 2.4T, not the 2.5. Different CVT as the Ascent has the heavier TR690.

For a size comparison, park your Forester next to a current generation Jeep Grand Cherokee which is similar in outside dimensions as the Ascent in the US/Canada.

I was trying to find the photo I have of our two CWP Subarus...my Ascent and Professor Dr. SWMBO's Forester...parked side by side. Exactly what you described is what the photo shows. Even the interior/controls are so close that I bounce between them without even blinking. (use the Forester more because we moved "into" town)

Much more minor than hitting a 4,000lb vehicle. My point is, that in the car collision world, a vehicle/smaller animal impact typically shouldn't result is a car becoming a rolling fireball...

I can't speculate much, but it has happened to at least two other Ascent owners, one impact definitely a deer (not sure of the other), according to the Facebook Ascent group and records on NHTSA. It also just happened to a 2020 Forester, found on the Subaru Detailing page.

Scary this just happened to me and it was a deer impact too and complete loss in fire thankfullymy daughter and I got out in time
