Does anyone have any leads on dealers offering invoice pricing on accessories?

I know I saw a list of accessories in a thread a while back but I can't find it anymore and I think it was hidden in a thread not specifically for the list.

Either way, hopefully someone knows of a dealer that will work with us and sell some of these things at invoice.

They have taken a lot of the info from the Crosstrek it seems. For example The actual pricing for the rockford fosgate system on the Ascent is $411/$549

MSRP on this is $52, so Costco is off on that as well.

We'll sell parts at a discount, but they have to make a profit on parts. We're hooked up with the statewide Subie group that we'll sell things to them at a discount (and not a marked up price that's discounted!), but they need to make a little money - parts and service are how a new car dealership stays in business since on most new cars we make less than 1%.

The prices on Costco were initially higher and then suddenly dropped a few weeks ago.

Even my sales guy said they were too low.

So assume a bit higher as Carl and Jason mentioned.

So, I am definitely into the body side molding after examining the damage prevented on my current Subie...

What's up with the Door Edge Guards? Can anyone get more information or pictures of these? Are they metal? Do they hold up for a long time?

There are pictures on Subaru's website as you build it. It's hard to tell what you're looking at in the picture but it's a piece of plastic that pushes onto the edge of the door panel. It's thin and in the shape of a U with adhesive in the valley of the U that adheres to the door edge.

If you swing by an auto parts store you can see it up close and easily get a better idea of what it is. (They have generic black/chrome)

The only difference really, will be that the Subaru one will be color matched to your car color. Now if it's color is impregnated into the plastic or if it's painted over black/clear plastic, I couldn't tell you.

I saw the door edge guards on a white Outback at an Autoshow in March, they looked good and matched the color of the door. Thanks for the reminder, I will be adding these to our Ascent order since our garage has a concrete wall on one side and our Outback already has a few chips on the door edges from the doors hitting the wall.

Anyone think about putting Black body side molding on a white exterior to complete the stormtrubaru look?

That could look cool especially if you got black rims. The only “issue” I could foresee with getting the black ones from Subaru is that it’s a pearl black and I would rather have a plain gloss black for that look.

We did that on a Forester. White Forester, blacked out the tail lights and reflectors, blacked out the badges, painted the grill black.

We have the Bedlam Edition Crosstreks on our showroom floor right now. Red with black interior, blacked out tail lights, blacked out grill with red wings, 2" lift, and a Black with Katzkin custom black and orange leather, black grill with orange wings, orange badges, 2" lift. Both cars have B F Goodrich trail tires and Motegi wheels.

Do you guys farm out all of the customization work or do that in house? The red/black Crosstrek looks sweet

I saw the door edge guards first hand today on both a Foz and an OB. They’re nice. I am going to get them.

Hey Carl, we've recently been doing similar things to crosstreks, Outbacks, and Foresters. I've had one customer adamant that we are going to have a bunch of angry customers because we didn't tune the CVT transmission for the bigger tires. Do you guy tune anything? We never have and my shop guys have told him he is wrong, but I thought I ask another source, just to double check :)

Huh,... what's there to tune? I have the larger diameter (2.9%) BFG KO2s on my Crosstrek Limited with EyeSight, and works perfectly. Haven't noticed any diff in driving, although theoretically might have slightly less acceleration. Increased my ground clearance to 9.1" (with no lift) and no rubbing. This thing is a beast off-road, where our cabin is. Only downside is more road noise.

The only thing you MUST do if you put a lift kit on a Subaru is do an alignment. The change in the camber on the tires is pronounced, otherwise.

And your customer who is adamant is wrong. You don't have to change anything on the CVT. Now - that doesn't mean that the speedometer reading isn't going to be SLIGHTLY different with a larger diameter tire - that's to be expected. Keep in mind that we have 3 Subaru Senior Master Tech's in our shop, they'd tell us if it was going to cause an issue.

Do the body side moldings really help? Thoughts?

I just ordered a touring 2 days ago and was just wondering if I could just contact the dealer and ask them to add it.

I ordered them on my Touring. As far as I can tell they help prevent paint and body damage from other peoples doors by acting as a bumper. I have them on my current vehicle which is 11 years old and for a car of its age I have very little damage on either side. I figure I’ll be keeping this car for just as long so anything that keeps it looking good is worth the investment. It’s much easier to replace a plastic strip than to remove door dings, buff and repaint.
