From out first long distance outing in August. Los Angeles to Four Corners and back. Besides flash flooding, we encountered golf-ball sized hail on the way there. We ducked under the nearest overpass as soon as we could. No dings or dents on the body and no shattered glass, windshield or moon-roof.

Glad you had a great outing, specially that the Subaru body and Glass could take all that beating and come out unscathed. Very encouraging to all of us as few in the forum had some bad experience with th windshield. 馃憤

What's a good deal for an insurance plan for windshield/glass, btw? I don't see as many complaints about the cracked windshield from NHTSA than other models like Outbacks. But the cost of replacing one worries me.

FIrst option should generally be having glass coverage on your auto insurance if it is available. That adds about $40 a year to my auto insurance and is zero deductible for glass. It's an addition to comprehensive coverage.

I just had my second main trip this past weekend, and on the way back some nice guy in a truck towing a welding trailer drove over on the shoulder to let me pass and spewed rocks of many sizes all over my front end. He was doing about 60 and did it again a short while after. (I was not intending to pass and was slowing after missing the passing lane)
I was swerving and hit the brakes as the rocks pelted the front end, and have at least 3-4 small chips in the windshield and at least one nice paint chip on the front bumper/cover. Too many bugs to see more damage yet until I wash it today. I'm going to test out my "Blue Steel" Warranty the dealer stuck on the car at the sale, which is supposed to handle these chips.

Let us know how the warranty works out!
