The CVT itself has never been an issue. The two recalls were for a faulty wiring harness that damaged the transmission on some vehicles and the second was for faulty software that caused a failure of the chain guide in the transmission. The TR690 transmission in the Ascent has been in use by Subaru for over 13 years now. It's not new.

Brake pads were changed to help with the issues. Folks also need to follow the written break in period that's in the manual to reduce issues. The brake pads are very "sticky" which makes for nearly best in the industry for the class of vehicle.

My observation...which could be flawed...is that an oil leaks are more of an unusual issue rather than endemic to the Ascent.

I second this. There have been a few complaints here but nothing I'd call a trend toward Ascents having oil leak issues. Mine is a 2019 with 66k on it, I drive it pretty hard most of the time, and I gave it a thorough inspection for any leaks yesterday: none found.

Sounds good- In what I located it seemed to be a problem with the 2.4 turbo engine only and to much\ to little rtv...Nice to hear its not widespread\ fixed
The Ascent only comes with the 2.4T but as xydadx3 mentioned, oil leaks are "not a thing" overall. Like any vehicle, occasionally someone with get "that one" that has issues of various kinds including, perhaps, a bad gasket from the factory, etc. But otherwise, this is not something to worry about.

My 2019 brakes were fine
2020 squeak occasionally
2023 squeak at speeds over 45 practically nonstop… at moderate to low brake pressure .5-1 seconds at the beginning of the breaking

My oil pan leak was first identified by a Subaru tech during an oil change at about 28,000. Parts were ordered on one of my last oil changes and I had it completed on my last oil change at 44,000. The whole process took about 4 hours including making certain that they had a good seal. I appreciated that I got a free oil change out of the deal but if I weren't retired, the time that I have spent for these unexpected glitches for a quality driven manufacturer of cars would be a greater issue. I love many aspect of the Ascent but I would say that I expected better from Subaru.

LOL, i hope not every car squeak, we just did 1900 mi trip to Colorado and back from Texas and had to listen to it for 20+ hours ..
not sure if i mentally tune it out now or they actually stop doing it ..
I thought that is why subaru kept the radio volume knob (turn it up). Seriously, iit would drive me crazy and i would do everything in my power to get soa to take care of it.
