Thanks for this write up. I will definitely do this mod ASAP. But the problem is I can't find the Fuse Holder Extension shipped for cheap to Canada. Will this work instead?

Also, I'm wondering how the 2020 wiring is done differently for this switch compared to what you're doing to the 2019 here (hence the need to modify the switch)?

Sadly, I am pretty sure this will disable other systems, as the lights are not the only thing that goes through that fuse. Keyfob functions are affected, for one.

disables
Keyfob functions - locking and unlocking only car still starts
car lighting all on the same fuse (10 amp)
all ambient lighting (LED) ~2-4 Watt
approach lighting(LED) ~2-3 Watt -do not auto shut off
courtesy lighting doors (NOT LED) (4x5) 20Watt -do not auto shut off
interior lighting (NOT LED) (6X5) 30watt

it disables
58+ Watt total (I changed all to LED so its 11 watt ~1 amp total now)

so just lights take 58/12 4.8= amp (per hour) (tail gate open kill battery problem )

looks like mod will be perfect for camping :)

Does this switch turn off the lights before they are turned on? From my understanding this button turns on the lights but doesn’t really turn off the lights beforehand. Like say you don’t want the interior lights to go on when you get out of the car, doesn’t work. That being said, this button is only half a solution. But finally, someone posted the wiring diagram that I needed to work a solution. I will update if and when I get it up and running.

And in response to Hannah, I am assuming the “X” is for cutting the line. The switch is the bridge to complete the circuit. You cannot do this mod using a physical switch without cutting the physical power line. What I would suggest (if you have the expertise and parts) is pull those wires from the connector instead of cutting the line and add a new line from the connector to switch. This was you can remove later and restore original configuration. The only other option for wiring the switch is if you had some sort of power management board. But that would start getting too complicated for a lot of people.

I just pinged my Sales contact at the dealership about an upgrade to my 2019 for the 2020 'one-touch interior illumination on/off controls.' Will circle back after she answers.

I'm assuming you switched the guts of the switch in option #1. What was the purpose??

COLOR CODE SUBARU USE:

You will see letter codes on every connection point in a Subaru wiring diagram, which indicate the (expected) color of the wire at that point. One code means a solid color; two mean a background color (first code) with a stripe on it (second code). Here are the codes:
L Blue
B Black (Means ground, most of the time anyway)
Y Yellow
G Green
R Red
W White
Br Brown
Lg Light green
Gr Gray
P Pink
Or Orange
Lb Light Blue
Sb Sky Blue (Appears to be same as Lb in SH models. Thanks to member Rustoz for the update.)
V Violet

SA Single interior conductor in a shielded cable
SB Outer shield in a shielded cable, usually grounded

@denissh, Thanks for posting your dome light shut-off switch installation info. I followed your instructions and it works great. One quirk to this setup that I noticed is that if you open the passenger seat vanity mirror (with vanity lights), the operation of the switch gets all mixed up. The lights are on when you want them off, and off when you want them on, and the front light buttons control the rear lights, etc... some really funny and frustrating behavior if you don't know what is causing it! Otherwise works great!

I used option #2 (without the relay). One nice "feature" of this setup is that while it disables all the interior lights from coming on in unison when someone opens a door, you can still use one light at a time, which helps for reading maps, etc. Also, when using one light at a time, the light is dimmer, which suits my use-case scenario of night-time driving. Full disclosure, I have the LED interior light package with premium trim, so this may not function the same on another model or with the stock incandescent interior lights.
