Who better to highlight the 2019 Accent’s features at its unveiling last night than the Barkleys, and yes it’s a family of eight golden retrievers taking a road trip in Subaru’s largest SUV.
With three full rows of seating, there’s ample space to take the whole family on an adventure. Keeping even the unruliest of family entertained on long rides is Apple Carplay and Android Auto, an 8-inch infotainment screen with speakers powered by subwoofers, 19 cup holders and eight USB ports.
If they’re lucky, perhaps the optional second-row captain's chairs will be comfortable enough to put those puppies to sleep. At least the stain-repellent upholstery in the Premium trim level will make clean up a cinch if anything were to happen while the kids are awake.
Speaking of the Accent’s interior, the published cargo number is lower than expected at 72.8 cubic feet, but perhaps that is measured up to the top of the seats instead of the roof. On the bright side, its 5,000-pound tow rating and standard Class III hitch means a family can tow whatever they can’t fit into the cargo area or even a boat.
Getting everyone and everything moving is a new 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer-four engine delivering 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to accelerate the eight-seater from 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.
Not bad for an estimated starting price of around $30,000 when it goes on sale next summer.
