Questions...

Hey @Discount Tire, I bought my Liquid Metal Shadows from you, and you all were wonderful enough to find me the correct lug nuts, and provide me with the correct hub spacers - not to mention, to the benefit of everyone in this forum looking for a more aggressive but stock sized setup, helped me test a BUNCH of other rims to see what fit over our massive front calipers (thank you from all of us).

So, I have two questions:
  1. Is a metal hub spacer better than the polycarbonate/plastic ones?
  2. How can I go about ordering more of whichever is best?

I bought five rims from you all, and I think I misplaced the spacer for the fifth (the spare), and I am afraid of one breaking or getting lost during a tire rotation (on my fourth rotation already).

So, since I'd always like to have a spare on hand:
  • If metal ones are better, I'd like to buy 6 metal ones (76mm to 56.1mm, IIRC).
  • If the plastic ones are fine, I'd like to buy two more.

Thanks for reaching out, Robert!

To your questions...

Is a metal hub spacer better than the polycarbonate/plastic ones?

There is a lot of debate on which material is best and there are Pros and Cons to both. Here's our take on the subject.

If you live in an area where snow and road salt is present, or in an area around the ocean, plastic rings are best used. Unlike the metal aluminum rings, the plastic rings will not oxidize and corrode.

If you push your vehicle to the limits and are constantly on the brakes, like when road racing for example, a metal hub centric ring is best used. The heat can break down the plastic material making it brittle which can ultimately lead to the ring braking. Although rare and under extreme conditions, the plastic ring can completely melt and deform.

If your vehicle is mainly used as a daily driver, pick one and go with it, either one will get the job done.

How can I go about ordering more of whichever is best?
