I am about to purchase a 2020 Ascent and was wondering if anyone had any input on the average amount of space between two rear facing car seats in the 2nd row? Is it that much bigger/better than an outback (later than 2017's)? My wife likes to sit in the middle with the kids when we travel. Any input/thoughts would be appreciated!

Yes, it is. We cross shopped the Outback when we bought our Ascent and you can put two rear facing car seats back there, but it is super tight in the Outback (we’re fairly small people too). Much more comfortable for the adult in the Ascent especially if you have narrow car seats.
Also, you’ll want to put the person on the outside if at all possible for a variety of reasons: 1- middle seat is safest place in car for a car seat, 2 - ease of access for getting in, 3 - in an emergency the adult in the middle will be pretty much trapped.
