My first post here but it looks like going forward, Outback and Ascent will have a unified firmware update file. Thought some here might find it interesting. Attached is the service bulliten:

Make that at least two because I also updated my 23 Ascent using those same files for the 23 Outback. Thanks to @chvvkumar for sharing.

Does anybody know if this update will eventually make it to be over wifi? If so I can wait rather than going via USB.

I looked last night and no updates were available, however I was able to update the maps via wifi. I thought that was a USB-only thing. I chose to only update California. It was 1GB but was very fast.
19-34 fixes /updates ... making it fill like they did not finish it at all before puting it in the car ...

That was expected. At release date, Portrait Mode was still in beta at Google, and Subaru (Denso) were programming to the beta interfaces and code.

Related to that, 2020-2022 Outbacks have now gained Portrait Mode via the similar updated code that just got rolled out for the 2023 Ascents, to take advantage of Google's more recent code.

Did this today on my 23 Ascent. More back and forth between pages to figure out what to download and how to set it up than I would like, but once I got everything on a USB drive, the updating itself was really easy/fast. Not sure why the "source" did not just put the files in an archive of some sort so that you could download that one file and extract.

Either way, I've done just that, I think i am allowed to post that here?
Ascent Firmware 68x

Easy download of the zip file and extract to a USB drive.

2020-2022 Outbacks they say still no Portrait Mode for Google's , apple was long time ago

On a side note, my dealer did not check for this update when they did my 6,000 mile service this week. You'll most likely have to bring it up instead of assuming they'll check for it automatically.

I just performed the update using the instructions here and additional specifics from the same forum members who also post over on the Outback forum. The update applied to a 2023 Ascent Touring.

Can also confirm you only need the directory and file on the USB stick that applies to your trim level. That's all I loaded. To future updaters, set up the directory structure on the USB for your trim level and only download the single ALLUPD-NAVI applicable. To make sense of this...read the Outback forum thread. Neither Chrome or Explorer keeps those files in a single zip containing the directory structure downloading from Google Drive. Why...don't know, maybe the file size.

I followed the TSB to the letter. I did experience the "RARE case of “Software update setup is initializing…” message" shown in Appendix A of the TSB. Followed those instructions, with the car idling, and after about 15 minutes (didn't time it), the "initialization complete" message showed up.

Special thanks to the members posting and hosting the updates!

Good summary. Just so others know, if you get the software update initializing message, you can just drive the car and it will finish while you drive, or you can sit and let it idle. The important thing is after the update is first installed, turn everything off and exit the car for at least 3 minutes. After that it pretty much completes on its own regardless of what you do. Subaru has done a good job of making the update process less prone to errors. In 2020 there were a lot of dealer-failed installs from not having the patience to follow the tsb instructions to the letter, but since then things have settled down. The Ascent community has the advantage of three model years experience doing updates on the Outback.
I just completed the update today on my 2023 Ascent Limited. Some points I found made it trouble free for me:

Modify directions to your model year. This applied to my 2023 Ascent Limited.

1.) You will find the website link at the end of this sentence for the files for the update. Thank you to the host for making those files available. Website hyperlink: Subaru Software Update March 2023.
2.) When you get on the website, select you model year. Then click the folder image in the right column, this will show you the folder's contents which will be F61Wx033-68x ( Year 2023) & the PDF file of the TSB.
3.) When you click on this F61Wx033-68x folder, the MSOC folder will show, the update folders in this folder for the Base, Mid & High contain the file. For my 2023 Ascent Limited, I needed the F61WMM (Mid) folder. The update file is in this folder. If you have a Base, then the folder F61WBM, high F61WHM.
4.) During the download of the file, google wanted to add a "-001" to the end of the file name. I had to change it back to its original file name after the download to its original name: ALLUPD-NAVI.pkg.
5.) On your formatted USB, the ALLUPD-NAVI.pkg file needs to be in the following folder and subfolder (My Ascent): MSOC\F61WMM\
6.) The file "REPRO_MNG" excel file is loaded directly onto the USB.
7.) To get into the Dealership Mode make sure the Tuning/Scroll button's 6 pushes are rapid in succession.

Read the PDF file 15-305-22R_030823 thoroughly.

My 4/23 build Touring has the rev linked in this thread. No need for the newest builds to update.
