Production Subaru Ascent Rendered

Of course this isn’t an official illustration from Subaru, but CarScoops has taken upon themselves to create a spy-shot based rendering of what the future 3-row SUV could look like in production form.

First seen in concept form at the 2016 LA Auto Show, the Viziv-7 concept based Ascent concept model recently debuted at the 2017 New York Auto and it seems to have kept the solid design theme with a large bluff grille and beefy fender flares.

Keeping with the Dynamic X Solid styling, the front facia is sporting a trapezoidal chrome grille complete with hawk-eye LED headlamps and raised hood ridges. It still has the noticeable fender flares, but they aren’t as chunky as the concept ones.

Sitting on a modified version of Subaru's Global Platform, the seven-seat Ascent is expected to be roomier than the old Tribeca and it’ll come with improved safety and fuel economy. What it won’t come with is the concept’s dual-panel infotainment system as the interior is gong to be toned down in the production model.

Powering the SUV could be Subaru’s new 2.4-litre, direct-injected and turbocharged H4 engine, which is said to have around 300 horsepower on tap with an emphasis on smooth torque delivery, so don’t expect to feel your head snap back into the headrest. Transmission is up in the air, but we should be seeing four-wheel drive with an optional X-mode for rougher trails.

Primarily developed for the North American market, those of you living outside of NA may not see it on showroom floors. We’ll hear more from Subaru as the expected sales date later this year approaches.

Maybe the main grille in the front could be a bit bigger, looks dwarfed by the headlights. But overall a nice clean design without all the farkles that SUVs and crossover these days seem to come with. Have you see the Toyota C-HR? I know it's a different segment, but that front facia...
